Ixtapan de la Sal, State of Mexico: Hot springs, cool golfing

Revered by the pre-Hispanic peoples as a source of thermal springs of salt water, Ixtapan de la Sal is nowadays a much appreciated tourist destination, the most popular in the State of Mexico. Many internationally-known hotel chains have locations here, most often placed on or right next to a thermal spring, such as the Laguna Verde, a carbonated water spring.

It is conveniently located just 90km south west of the Mexico City international Airport, and 60km south of the state capital of Toluca. Be sure not to confuse the name with the similar-sounding resort town of Ixtapa, Guerrero.
