Cocoyoc, Morelos: A haven of peace boasting beautiful courses

Located about 2 hours outside of the Greater Mexico City area, Cocoyoc is such a haven of peace that it feels much more remote from the bustle of the city than it actually is. The name derives from a Nahuatl phrase meaning "the place of the coyotes". Although it was inhabited centuries before, under the colonial government the Spaniards founded a sugar producing hacienda on the site.

Nowadays, the Lomas de Cocoyoc district is an exclusive neighbourhood that has gained the favour of numerous Mexico City residents. It follows a model of careful urban planning seldom seen in Mexico, taking advantage of the natural beauty of the mountainous area while putting forth genuine conservation measures.

Over the last few years, it has been able to develop a wide variety of high quality services, such as spas and different therapy and health centres. It is now taking full advantage of these attractions to cater to international visitors looking for a quiet, rejuvenating stay in the Mexican mountains.
Lomas de Cocoyoc is also surrounded by interesting cultural attractions, including many archaeological sites, reaching back to the Aztec and Olmec civilizations, and a series of easily accessible colonial monuments.

Accomodation in Cocoyoc

Hotel Hacienda Cocoyoc
This hotel is built on the site of a sugar plantation hacienda once part of the estate of Hernán Cortez. In 1957, Paulino Rivera Torres bought the old Hacienda Cocoyoc and carried out his dream of making it into a hotel. This beautiful, comfortable hotel combines modern comfort and efficiency with the romantic elegance of the past of the old "Hacienda Cocoyoc."
