In fact, this exceptional geography proved very inspirational for golf course designers, and the greatest names in golf designs have left their mark in Mexico over the last decades. Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones Jr., Robert Von Hagge are only some of the authors behind the gems that you can find all over the country.
This month's newsletter takes you along for a tour of the best golf courses in Mexico. When it comes to golfing vacations, variety is key and Mexico beckons. |

Many of the best golf courses of Mexico are located near or affiliated with high-end resorts. This makes them able to offer great package deal where visitors can enjoy both the beachside leisure activities and fairway fun.
No need to be the next Tiger Woods or Lorena Ochoa either: most courses offer golf lessons and club rentals, so even if golfing is not the main reason behind your coming to Mexico, you can enjoy the scenery and get a tip or two from the pros to improve your drive.
A growing trend
Clearly, golf in Mexico is booming: the country is now second only to Hawaii when it comes to the number of US golf tourists it receives. The Canadians are enthusiastic players and golf connoisseurs (Canada is the country with the most golfers per capita in the world), as such, they are much coveted by golf developers in Mexico.
As a result of the quick development of golf, the main tourist destinations in the country are now equipped with championship level golf courses, and many inland locations have also invested to create the finest in fairways. |

Cocoyoc, Morelos: A haven of peace boasting beautiful courses
Located about 2 hours outside of the Greater Mexico City area, Cocoyoc is such a haven of peace that it feels much more remote from the bustle of the city than it actually is. The name derives from a Nahuatl phrase meaning "the place of the coyotes". Although it was inhabited centuries before, under the colonial government the Spaniards founded a sugar producing hacienda on the site.
Nowadays, the Lomas de Cocoyoc district is an exclusive neighbourhood that has gained the favour of numerous Mexico City residents. It follows a model of careful urban planning seldom seen in Mexico, taking advantage of the natural beauty of the mountainous area while putting forth genuine conservation measures.

This was made public after the inspective visit made to Xel-Ha on behalf of Gustavo Ramos, Green Globe Latin America coordinator, during which he was presented with the set of principles, commitments, and actions that make this Natural Park the model of sustainable tourist recreation it is, by Xel-Ha's Executive Committee.
